'Rebel Rumble' boxing event in aid of Marymount Hospice

A Cork woman is hoping the Rebel County will come out and support a boxing extravaganza this weekend to raise more than €20,000 for Marymount Hospice.

Ballincollig native Rachel Cronin (21) lost her mother to cancer three years ago.

Since then, she has wanted to give back to Marymount for the care shown to her mother and her family at that time and since.

Rachel has organised the Rebel Rumble which will take place this Saturday and will see 30 boxers battle it out in aid of Marymount Hospice.

The event gets underway at 7.30pm at the Clayton Hotel, Silver Springs.

“Marymount go above and beyond to care for families,” said Rachel.

“I was doing my Leaving Cert when my mother died and nurses would take time on their lunch break to help me study.

“Our story is just one of hundreds Marymount is part of in Cork,” she added.

“I really do not know what we would do without this amazing facility in our city and Rebel Rumble is my way to help Marymount raise some much needed funds.” More than 30 boxers have signed up to take part on the night and Cork entrepreneur Pat Phelan of SISU has agreed to be one of the main sponsors of the event.

“The training is tough but it is for a great cause,” said Pat.

“Marymount Hospice has touched almost every home in Cork and surrounding areas.

“To be part of an event like this is an honor,” he added.

A host of other local businesses have turned out in support of the event and Highfield RFC has donated their hall and training facilities to get the fighters match ready.

There will be 15 fights in total and each fight can be sponsored by a business.

Rachel is still looking for sponsors for the event, fights and spot prizes and any interested parties are encouraged to contact her on rebelrumblecork@gmail.com.

All funds raised will go to Marymount Hospice and help the Cork charity reach their fundraising goal for 2019.

Rachel has set herself the ambitious target of raising €24,000.

Tickets are available from EventBrite.ie starting from €15 for standing, €20 for seated and €25 for VIPs.

You can also purchase tickets from the Roosters in Douglas, Highfield RFC and the fighters themselves.

If you cannot make the night itself you can donate today via the events GoFundMe page www.gofundme.com/rebel-rumble-in-aid-of-marymount.
