An information helpline has been made available for people who were forced to abandon their cars in the multi-storey car park of Douglas Shopping Centre after it caught fire.
Anyone who left their car in the building has been urged to contact 087 9509800 for information.
A fire broke out at the shopping centre at around 7pm on Saturday evening after a car caught fire on the first floor of the car park.
Around 60 cars are believed to have been damaged in the fire in which no one was injured.
One concerned car owner whose car was trapped in the building told The Echo:
“The car was parked on the first floor where the fire was and at the moment, I don’t know if there’s any damage or anything.
“I drove it into work and then my son took it and parked it up inside so I don’t know exactly where on the first floor.
“I don’t know if it’s fine, slightly damaged or completely burnt out,” she added.
“They gave us a number to call later and they’ll hopefully be able to tell me what the situation is.
“It’s an awful thing to happen.
“I only have one car so I’m hoping to get some bit of it back anyway.
“It’s vital for work and getting around but the owners of the shop have been a big help and they said they’d help workers get to their other stores that we work in.”
