Carrigaline councillor Seamus McGrath has welcomed Cork County Council’s announcement that it is launching a tender process for a consultant team to carry out a transportation and public realm enhancement plan for the town.

The plan aims to realise Carrigaline’s potential and provide a strategic roadmap that will influence development and sustainable growth.

Mr McGrath said it is a critical step to assist investment in Carrigaline, the largest town in Cork County.

“We need public investment but it is vitally important that we have a detailed plan,” he said. “There are two key elements to this — the whole transportation issue, but also the town centre and public realm.

“Carrigaline town centre does require investment, it has often been said we lack a heart to the town so this plan will deliver on providing that type of heart to the town centre and an attractive and well designed public space.

“It is a multi-disciplinary consultancy team they are appointing, it is going to be quite comprehensive in nature I would say, taking an overall and macro view of Carrigaline from a transportation and public realm view.”
