Guests sought for wedding with a difference in Kinsale

Rusty (Pat O’Regan) meets his bride Ruby (Aisling Minihane) on their wedding day in Love is in the Air.

GUESTS who attend a wedding with a difference in Kinsale later this month can expect a drama-filled evening to go with their meal.

The Kinsale Carmelite Friary Renovation Fund is hosting the ‘Love Is In The Air’ mock wedding fundraiser in Actons Hotel on Saturday, July 13.

Guests are being invited to put on their glad rags for the wedding of ‘Ruby and Rusty’, starting with a drinks reception at 5pm, before the ceremony itself and a four-course meal.

Actors and crew from the local Rampart Players and the Clontead Drama Group are providing the theatrics, with direction from Aine Ryan O’Brien and Liz Timmons producing. A supergroup of well-known local musicians have come together to form the ‘wedding band’ for the evening and competitors in recent Strictly Come Dancing fundraisers are also taking part.

The organisers promise lots of surprises and a prize for best-dressed guest on the night. They also wanted to thank the management and staff of Actons hotel for all their help and support.

The big event is in aid of the ongoing renovations of the local Carmelite Friary.

€200,000 have been raised over the past two years, to pay for a major refurbishment of the building.

Organisers estimate another €90,000 is needed to fully finish the work, including repairs to the roof and a full repaint inside.

Tickets for the ‘Love Is In The Air’ event cost €40 and are available from the Friary office, the tourist office in Kinsale and the Boathouse gallery.

You can find out more about the event and the ongoing work at the Kinsale Carmelite Friary Renovation Fund Facebook page.
