Mystery surrounds the closure of Next store in Douglas

ONE of the four Next clothing and homeware stores in Cork has shut its doors.

Next in Douglas Court Shopping Centre closed down on Saturday.

The store is one of three Next clothing stores in Cork with one in Mahon Point, another on Opera Lane and a homeware-only Next store in Blackpool Retail Park.

It is the latest high profile retail outlet to reduce its availability to customers in the city, with Argos closing its city centre store last week and superbrand Arcadia closing its Dorothy Perkins and Evans store on Patrick Street in early June.

Despite repeated efforts to contact Next management, no details have been given on how many employees were affected by the closure and if any redeployment options were made available to staff.

No reason for the closure was given.

A representative of Douglas Court Shopping Centre confirmed that the store had closed its doors on Saturday last, and said that there would be an announcement soon on what would be taking over the vacant space.
