Sixth fatal crash occurs in north Cork in less than a month

GARDAÍ in Mallow are appealing to anyone with dashcam footage related to a fatal road collision to come forward after a sixth person lost their lives on north Cork roads in the last 28 days.

A man was killed shortly before 7am on Monday morning in a crash between a car and a truck at Newtwopothouse between Mallow and Buttevant.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene but the male driver of the truck escaped uninjured.

There were no passengers in the car involved in the collision.

The road was closed for a time as forensic collision experts carried out an investigation.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are also appealing to people with dashcam footage to hand it over to investigators. Anyone with information is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022-31450 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

The incident came just hours after a teenager died following a single-car road accident on the N25 outside Midleton.

Six people have lost their lives on roads covered by the Cork North Garda division in the last four weeks.

A man in his 50s, travelling to work in Cork city, died near Midleton when his car collided with a fuel truck on August 1.

A motorcyclist was killed in Dromahane near Mallow on July 14, while another motorcyclist was fatally injured near Mallow on July 18.

A man in his 70s died on July 20 after his motorbike hit a car on the Cork to Waterford Road.
