Douglas school will not reopen to students tomorrow as planned

Some primary school children in Cork will not be able to return to school tomorrow as planned.

While thousands of children across the county returned to school tomorrow, children attending St Columba’s Boys National School in Douglas will be unable to do the same tomorrow morning.

Parents of children attending the school were informed this evening that the school will be closed as construction is underway on site.

As a result, some buildings on the school grounds are not accessible.

In a statement on the school’s Facebook page issued today, principal Dan O’Connor said:

“Despite our best efforts we are unable to open the school to pupils tomorrow.

“We are doing everything we can but certain aspects are out of our control.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time,” he added.

“Further updates will issue as early as possible tomorrow.”

In a further update, Mr O’Connor said the school no longer had use of its prefabs and reiterated that the school will be closed tomorrow.

He apologised to parents for any inconvenience caused.
