An elderly man, thought to have been dead for seven months, was discovered in his home on Friday evening in Blackpool by Gardaí.

They were called by a neighbour to the Maddens Buildings area of Blackpool, around midday on Friday to find the body of the pensioner in his home.

The body of the man was taken to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination, but his death is not being treated as suspicious.

An inquest is will take place later in the year.

A Garda source said it is, unfortunately, not unusual to be called out in this manner to the home of a pensioner, living alone.

Last May, a man in his seventies was found at his home on the northside, where he had been dead for six months.
