CASTLETOWNBERE will be celebrating movie stars a little closer to home this weekend with the Beara Film Festival — with support from Cork County Council, Creative Ireland and Pure Cork — set to screen 12 short films.
Castletownbere native Gerard O’ Leary, no stranger to the stage and screen himself, says the festival aims to shine a light on local talent.
“In the true spirit of a small fishing village like Castletownbere people have gelled together to create something spectacular and give us a little taste of Hollywood,” he said.
Beara Film Fest 2019 will be held at the former St. Peter’s Church of Ireland on Saturday at 7.30pm. Doors open at 6.45pm.
Festival patron, Pascal Scott — of The Young Offenders fame — will conduct the awards ceremony, with an appearance from a mystery celebrity guest.
Admission is free but donations for Cork Penny Dinners are welcome.
An alternative matinee section for young film buffs will take place earlier, at 2.30pm.
It will include short films made by students from Bere Island National School, Beara Community School and Foróige Youth.
