North Main Street to remain closed to vehicle traffic to allow demolition of condemned buildings
North Main Street remains closed to through traffic following a partial building collapse last week.

THERE is currently no date for the reopening of North Main Street to vehicles, which has been closed to accommodate the emergency demolition of two condemned buildings.

Loftus Demolition is already on site after the partial collapse of one of the buildings last week.

The street is closed to traffic currently but remains open for pedestrians.

The company has been carrying out all the necessary safety checks in recent days, and Hilary Loftus said his team will get through the demolition as quickly as possible once they are cleared to start.

"We are going through it as quick as possible because you want North Main Street opened up again.

"It will be closed for a while, but safety comes first.

"We'll blaze into it. We'll give it 100%. We have the guys ready to tear into it. We have the cherry pickers in there.

"We'll be able to make good progress," he said.
