THE mother of two-year-old Santina Cawley, Bridget O’Donoghue, has asked the person responsible for her daughter’s death to tell Gardaí what happened.
Santina was laid to rest following emotional scenes at the North Cathedral on Friday.
In an interview with the Sunday World, Ms O’Donoghue asked the killer to “confess what you did to my baby”.
“You took my baby’s life... at least give her the justice she deserved,” she said.
In a harrowing account of the aftermath of the tragic incident which led to Santina’s death, Ms O’Donoghue said her thoughts have turned to the circumstances of the morning she died.
She also described the fatal injuries the toddler sustained.
“All I could think was my beautiful little baby had been kicked around like a football,” she said.
“Her little body was broken.
“She has bruises going all the way down from her neck to her feet.”
Gardaí arrested a woman in her 30s last week, who is not related to Santina. She was later released without charge and a file will be prepared for the DPP.
Gardaí investigating Santina’s murder issued a fresh appeal for information in recent days.
Gardaí are urging anyone who was in the Elderwood estate or Boreenmanna Road areas between 1am and 5.30am on July 5 to contact them.
Investigators are particularly appealing to those with dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area.
Santina was found in a critical condition at the Elderwood complex shortly after 5am on July 5.
She was rushed to hospital but later died from her injuries. A murder investigation was launched following an autopsy on the child’s body.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Anglesea Street Station on 021 452 200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
