A MURDER investigation has been launched in Cork following the discovery of a man's body in a house on Bandon Road.

The 55-year-old Mayfield man, named locally as Paul Jones, was found dead by his son at the single storey property at around 11.30am yesterday. He called to the house after a number of attempts to contact him failed.

There were signs of injuries and gardaí alerted the office of the State pathologist. His body was removed to the morgue at Cork University Hospital yesterday evening and the scene was sealed off for a forensic examination as gardaí tried to establish how he sustained the injuries.

The post mortem by assistant State pathologist Linda Mulligan got underway at midday today at CUH and gardai upgraded their investigation following completion of the post mortem.

They have not revealed the cause of death, for operational reasons.

The are continuing their trawl through CCTV and are holding door to door enquiries in the area.

A garda spokesman said: “Investigating officers are anxious to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Bandon Road / McCurtain Villas area of Cork City between Monday 2nd September and Saturday 7th September 2019 and to anyone who may have dash cam footage to please contact the incident room at Anglesea Street on 021-4522000, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
