EIGHT high-profile comedians are coming to Cork to play the very first Cavern Comedy Festival taking place at Coughlan’s Bar next month.
From CCCahoots, to Bernard Casey, Joanne McNally to Chris Kent, if you like your comedy you are going to love this line-up in the intimate and cosy setting of this Douglas Street pub with a capacity of 60 people.
Organiser of the festival Christopher O’Leary said it was easy to get the stars on board with Cork’s first Comedy festival running from November 5 to November 10.
“Pretty much everyone who performs in Coughlans wants to come back, and it was just a question of finding a date that would work,” he said.
“Coughlans is an amazing venue for music and comedy (recently listed in Lonely Planet as one of the 25 most unique music venues in Ireland), both to perform in and to be a part of an audience, the staff are fantastic, and we get great audiences here for comedy gigs, so it has been pretty easy to convince people to sign up.”
The idea for the festival came from The Comedy Cavern, which is a comedy club run by Christopher which takes place every Tuesday night. The Comedy Cavern celebrated its second birthday in July with Joanne McNally coming down to do a preview of her brilliant new show “The Prosecco Express”.
Christopher said the festival is taking off with five shows already sold out and tickets flying out the door at a hectic rate. “Sales are going really well. I am expecting the other gigs to sell out in the next week or two.” The Cavern Comedy Festival line up features: Tue Nov 5th 8pm: CCCahoots (Sold out) Wed Nov 6th 8pm: Shane Clifford Thur Nov 7th 8pm: Gearóid Farrelly Fri Nov 8th (early show) 7:30pm: Michael Odewale Fri Nov 8th (late show) 10pm: Bernard Casey (Sold out) Sat Nov 9th 7:30pm: Joanne McNally (Sold out) Sun Nov 10th (early show) 5:30pm: Fern Brady (Sold out) Sun Nov 10th (late show) 8pm: Chris Kent (Sold out).
