Two masked teenagers, armed with knives, held up a pizza place in Ballincollig over the weekend, escaping with a large quantity of cash.

Investigating gardaí have been monitoring hospital admissions following the incident as one of the teens fell while fleeing on foot and is thought to have broken a bone.

It is expected they will require medical assistance for his injury.

The robbery took place at Heaven Pizza in the Classes Lake retail park at around 11.30pm on Saturday.

Owner Nasir Khan said all his staff had gone home except for one, who was closing up the takeaway with help from Mr Khan’s parents when two teenagers wearing Halloween masks entered the store.

The youths, described as being 5 ft 11 and 5 ft 8, went behind the reception area and confronted the staff member with knives. Hearing the commotion, Mr Khan’s parents came to the reception area.

The taller of the two ordered them to get on the ground.

Mr Khan’s mother attempted to take on the raiders with a brush handle, but one of the teens took the brush and began beating her husband, who was lying on the floor.

The pair took a substantial amount of money from the tills and took off on foot with Mr Khan’s father in pursuit.

While escaping, one of the teens tripped and fell and had to be helped by his accomplice.

The pair managed to get away and a Garda investigation is now underway.

CCTV is being gathered from several cameras in the area to assist with the investigation.
