A MAN has appeared in court in relation to a number of burglaries which sparked a Garda manhunt on the southside of Cork.

The man in his 20s was arrested following a large Garda search operation in the Rochestown area of Cork city last Thursday.

He appeared before a special sitting of Cork City District Court this afternoon.

A high-speed Garda chase took place after two men in masks were intercepted at a house burglary in Rochestown.

Gardaí began chasing the men in Rochestown after a grey Audi rammed a Garda car blocking their path as they fled the scene of a house burglary on Coach Hill.

A manhunt followed across Bessborough and Mahon Golf Club with 60 Gardaí including the Armed Support Unit and the Dog Unit searching the bushes of the grassy areas.

The Garda plane was also deployed to help with the search and an appeal was issued for public support to help apprehend the men.
