The Cork Branch of the Western Front Association will hold its annual Service of Remembrance at the war memorial on the South Mall this Saturday.
This service, which is inclusive, ecumenical and non-political, will be attended by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork, members of the Diplomatic Corps, the Defence Forces and veteran’s associations.
It will remember those from all countries who died in the First World War, the Irish who fought in the War of Independence and members of the Defence Forces who died in the cause of world peace.
As November 11 is also Poland’s Independence Day, and Cork has a large Polish population, this will also be marked.
The service will commence at 10:30am and all are welcome to attend and lay a floral tribute to an ancestor of who died in the war.
