In a tweet issued by Iarnród Éireann, they advised passengers traveling on later train services to expect delays following the unfortunate incident which occurred outside Limerick Junction.

With the tracks blocked, Irish Rail deployed a number of engineers to the site to ensure no damage was done to the train.

The train was brought back to Limerick Junction and passengers were transferred to the 8:20pm Cork to Dublin service.

It was just after 1am when the passengers arrived at their final destination.

The journey, which typically takes 2 and a half hours, took over triple this amount of time due to the freak accident.
