Car crashes into pole in lunchtime incident in Cork

A STREET on Cork's northside is blocked this lunchtime after a car collided with a pole.

A STREET on Cork's northside is blocked this lunchtime after a car collided with a pole.

The incident occurred on Wolfe Tone Street, after the car mounted a kerb.

The occupants of the car fled but were later caught by gardaí.

The incident occurred near St Vincent's Primary School.

Sinn Fein's Cllr Thomas Gould said the incident could have resulted in a very serious tragedy.

He said: "It happened near the entrance to St Vincent's Primary School and if it happened a bit later, there could have been a very serious tragedy here.

The residents really appreciated the quick response by gardai."
