Gardaí immigration detectives in Cork prevented six people from entering Ireland via Cork Airport recently.

Six people arrived in Cork after flying from Paris. They were travelling with Italian travel documents, however, Gardaí said due to their nationalities these were insufficient and they required Visas to enter Ireland.

They also had "poor reasons" for coming to Ireland and the Gardaí claimed they had no accommodation booked.

The six people were put back onto a plane bound for Paris, but the aircraft returned to the stand after a "situation [occured] where other passengers may have been at risk".

The individuals were detained overnight and later returned to Paris under Garda escort.

The Garda Press Office have been contacted for a statement.
