GARDAÍ are today continuing the hunt for a shooter who left a man seriously injured in hospital last night.
The shooting occurred in the Chapelgate estate in the Ballyvolane area at around 7:40pm last night.
A male, aged 41, was brought to Cork University Hospital with gunshot wounds where his condition is described as stable.
He was shot a number of times and suffered injuries to his chest and arms.
It's understood the gunman fled on foot but may have been collected in a waiting car.
No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
The scene is currently preserved for examination by local scenes of crime officers.
The alarm was raised at 7:40pm last night with reports that a man had been injured in a suspected shooting in a housing estate in the Ballyvolane area.
Gardaí including members of the armed regional support unit, and National Ambulance Service paramedics and a rapid response doctor went to the scene at Chapelgate.
They found an injured man at the scene and treated him for suspected gunshot wounds before he was taken to Cork University Hospital for further treatment.
An incident room has been established at Watercourse Road Station where a case conference was held by investigators this morning.
A garda statement said: "Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in Chapelgate area between 7pm and 7.45pm to come forward, they are also appealing to anyone with camera footage (including dashcam) from the area to make it available to investigators."
