Storm Elsa is upgraded to a Status Orange and will hit Cork this evening

Met Éireann has now upgraded the national Yellow alert to Orange for Cork only.

Gusts of up to 120km/h are due to hit Cork this evening as Atlantic storm system Elsa tracks northwards across the county.

Met Éireann has now upgraded the national Yellow alert to Orange for Cork only.

"A small deepening depression, associated with the Atlantic storm system Elsa, will track northwards close to the Atlantic seaboard this evening," Met Éireann said.

"Strong southerly winds veering southwest will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/h with gusts up 120km/h for a short time."

The Orange Status warning is in effect from 6pm this evening up until 9pm.
