Cork roads to be gritted tonight as temperatures fall to -2 degrees
The gritting of Cork roads will begin at 8pm tonight.

Motorway and road service company Egis Lagan Services said their gritting trucks will begin operations on main Cork roads from 8pm tonight on the M8 Motorway to Dublin and the M20 to Limerick.

Gritting will begin at midnight on the southern routes of the N40 South Ring Road and the N25 road to Waterford.

Egis Lagan grit the South Ring Road as far as the Ovens bridge, the M8 as far as the Fermoy toll plaza, the N25 as far as Junction 6 (Whitegate,) and the N20 from The Commons Inn as far as the Killarney roundabout in Mallow.

Met Éireann has forecasted temperatures to dip to below freezing later tonight, with sharp frost and hazardous icy patches likely before morning.

"Temperatures will dip to between -2 and +2 Celsius with frost and a risk of icy patches. Coldest inland," forecasters said.

Tomorrow will be dry with bright or sunny spells at first but cloud will increase from the west bringing patchy rain and drizzle to western parts of Munster during the afternoon.
