JOURNALIST Robert Fisk is to speak at UCC early next year, alongside Conor O’Clery.
The event will take place on Friday, February 21 and will see the two veteran journalists discussing current political scenarios based on their many years of experience and insights into world politics.
Currently based in Beirut, Mr Fisk has lived in the Arabsphere for over 40 years covering the war in Syria and Lebanon, five Israeli invasions, the Iran-Iraq war, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the Algerian civil war, Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait, the Bosnian and Kosovo wars, the American invasion and occupation of Iraq and the 2011 Arab revolutions.
Mr O’Clery has retired as the Irish Times foreign correspondent, but during his tenure, was twice named Journalist of the Year for his coverage of Gorbachev’s dismantling of the Soviet Union and the 9/11 attacks in New York.
The talk takes place from 7.30pm until 10pm in Devere Hall. General admission for the talk is €45, with student and senior entry charged at €25.
