A Youghal man carrying a baseball bat at the scene of a disturbance threatened to kill a member of An Garda Síochána.

Now at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, Barry Griffin of 97 Blackwater Heights, Youghal, County Cork, has been given a suspended 18-month sentence.

Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin said he was taking into consideration a very positive probation report and the fact that the accused was finally addressing addiction and dependency issues.

“And he is aware of what needs to be done… There is perhaps a long way to go,” the judge said.

Garda Aidan d’Ardis said gardaí were dealing with an incident when the accused threatened to kill Garda Darren Feehan on March 11 2018.

“He made a number of graphic threats. He was in possession of a baseball bat at the door,” Garda d’Ardis testified at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
