Driver questioned about seizure of drugs in Cork

A man has been questioned after a seizure of suspected ketamine, cocaine and cannabis herb after a car was stopped and searched in Cork city.

The driver was tested and was found to have cocaine and cannabis in his system.

The man is in his 20s. The estimated value of the drugs is €3,000.

The seizure was made yesterday.

A garda spokesman said: “Garda from the Divisional Roads Policing Unit in Cork city were on patrol when they stopped a car on the South Ring Road in Mahon. A search of the car was carried out and Gardaí discovered €1,200 of cannabis herb, €1,000 of cocaine and €800 of ketamine that was hidden in the boot. The suspected drugs will now be sent for analysis.” 

He added: “The driver of the car was also tested for the presence of drugs in his system which returned positive for cocaine and cannabis. He was arrested at the scene and brought to Togher Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He has since been release and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions."
