Gardaí have this morning confirmed the sad news that a body has been found in the search for a Midleton man missing for several days.

"The body of missing person Cormac Ryan, who has been missing from Cork city since Sunday, 9th February 2020, has been located," Gardaí said in a statement.

Units from Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery and Mallow Search and Rescue recovered the body from the river in the city centre yesterday.

Mallow Search and Rescue said on Facebook: "Very sad to report that the body of the missing person in Cork was recovered this evening by divers from Mallow Search & Rescue having been located by our Side Scan Sonar.

"We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends RIP.

"We would like to thank other units for their assistance during the search, Crosshaven Coast Guard, Guillen Coast Guard, Cork City Missing Persons and Anglesea Street Gardai."

The 31-year-old had last been seen in the city centre on Sunday evening. A file will now be prepared for the Coroner.
