The Cork City Road Policing Unit and the RSA conducted two checkpoints today with multiple offences detected.
Amongst those apprehended were two vehicles who were prohibited from continuing because their tyres were excessively worn.
In one case, a truck driver had to buy four new tyres costing over €1000 because all four were excessively worn.
In a statement issued by Gardaí on social media, they warned motorists:
"Driving on bald tyres is extremely dangerous."
They also took the opportunity for a bit of wordplay, stating:
"We're tyred of hearing the same old excuses and you're tyred of my dad jokes."
A checkpoint in Cork city on Tuesday also caught motorists driving on worn tyres, with no tax and with tachograph infringements.
