Irish Doctors Choir announce Cork charity gig
A charity gig in aid of the Mercy University Hospital Foundation is set to take place on November 24.

The Irish Doctors Choir will perform in the Aula Maxima, UCC on Sunday, November 24 from 3pm to 6pm and the concert will raise vital funds towards the development of a dedicated family room in the ICU department at the Mercy University Hospital.

The Irish Doctors Choir is a group of doctors and medical students from across Ireland and other EU countries who come together to share their love of singing.

Through their performances, the choir has raised vital funds for healthcare charities since its first event in November 2017.

Conducted by their Musical Director Brian MacKay, the unique choir will present a Choral Suite of Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, Russian Folk songs from the famous Sergei Rachmaninov and the afternoon will also feature performances of Borodin’s Polovstian dances from the opera Prince Igor.

Commenting ahead of the performance, Dr Aislinn Joy, who is a member of the choir said:

"The Irish Doctors Choir is delighted to bring this special performance to Cork on November 24th.

"Medicine has a strong affinity with the 'healing art' of music that dates back to ancient times and the central aim of the Irish Doctors Choir is to keep doctors connected to good music-making despite their demanding careers.

"In doing this, the choir is delighted to be able to raise vital funds for charities in the process."

Dr Joy continued:

"For this special autumn concert, we are delighted to be able to raise funds towards the development of a family room in the Mercy University’s Intensive Care Unit.

"This is something we feel very passionate about as we see first hand the traumatic experiences that face families in Intensive Care Units every day and the importance of having somewhere private to go and think and clear their minds.

"A dedicated family room in the ICU will provide huge benefits and we are very much looking forward to contributing to the development of this room."

Tickets to the event are €25 (Students/OAP tickets €12.50 per person) and are available to purchase online at or at the door on the night.
