A MAN in his 80s has died following a single-vehicle collision just off the Cork to Macroom road.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and Gardaí in Macroom are appealing for information to determine what caused the accident.
A statement from the Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí are investigating a single-vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred in the Kilbonane area of Aherla, Co. Cork, overnight between 16/12/19 - 17/12/19.
“A man in his 80s was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will take place. The road remains closed this morning for a forensic examination.
“Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any road users who travelled in the area between 9pm on 16/12/19 - 2:30am on 17/12/19 who may have dash cam footage, to contact Gardaí in Macroom on 026 20590 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.”
Icy conditions this morning has led to a slowing of traffic across the city and county.
A collision on the N73 just outside Mitchelstown at the Kildorrery roundabout is blocking the road. The N25, N20 and N71 are also slow.
