A CORK woman with seven previous theft convictions was caught shoplifting at Penneys in Cork city.

Tina Joyce, aged 42, of 228 Farranferris Avenue, Farranree, faced penalty at Cork District Court yesterday on the charge of stealing a small amount of property at the store on July 9.

Sergeant John Kelleher said Garda Michael Walsh went to the store when the theft was reported and the accused woman admitted it there and then.

The stolen property was recovered.

Judge Olann Kelleher referred to her previous convictions and said: “Nothing has changed, she is still stealing.”

Mr Cuddigan, solicitor, said: “She has an addiction difficulty to tablets. This is the underlying factor.”

Mr Cuddigan said the defendant was about to deal with her difficulties, through Tabor Lodge, and that this would bring her offending to an end.

Judge Olann Kelleher said he would give the accused one opportunity to address her difficulties and he put sentencing back until January 29.
