Cork Gardaí fine motorist for making conference call in hard shoulder
Fermoy Roads Policing Unit caught a motorist making a conference call in the hard shoulder of the M8.

Fermoy Roads Policing Unit came across the vehicle stopped on the hard shoulder of the M8 Motorway yesterday afternoon and upon further inspection discovered the driver had stopped to make a conference call.

On Facebook, Gardaí warned the public that the hard shoulder is only to be used in emergency situations, such as if your vehicle breaks down.

"The hard shoulder is definitely not the place to stop for phone calls, it should only be used in the case of an emergency.

"If you do breakdown or suffer another emergency always contact the emergency services using the SOS phones or by contacting the Gardaí who will only be too happy to help make sure you are safe," they stated.

The motorist in question was issued a €40 fine for his improper use of the hard shoulder, with gardaí warning, "it could have cost a life".
