A yellow wind warning has been issued for the entire country today, due to the risk of strong gusts and heavy spells of rain.

The warning is in effect as of 7am today until 4pm later this afternoon.

Met Éireann has forecasted that there will be strong and gusty southwest winds which will veer westerly early this afternoon with some severe and damaging gusts as well as heavy spells of rain continuing too.

Members of the public are asked to take caution when travelling today as Met Éireann states:

"Generally, winds will be below warning thresholds but damage to some structures and trees, already weakened from the effects of Storm Atiyah, is possible."

Coastal areas are particularly at risk today.
