THE body of a missing person was recovered from the River Lee at approximately 8pm on Thursday evening,has learned.
It is believed that the body could be that of a man who has been missing since the weekend and he is understood to have been in his 30s.
A search operation for the man had been ongoing for several days.
Gardaí at Anglesea Street confirmed tothat the body had been recovered but stated that formal identification has yet to take place and no name has been given to the press at this time.
Units from Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery and Mallow Search and Rescue recovered the body from the river in the city centre.
Mallow Search and Rescue said on Facebook: "Very sad to report that the body of the missing person in Cork was recovered this evening by divers from Mallow Search & Rescue having been located by our Side Scan Sonar.
"We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends RIP We would like to thank other units for their assistance during the search, Crosshaven Coast Guard, Guillen Coast Guard, Cork City Missing Persons and Anglesey Street Gardai."
The Garda Press Office has said the man will not be named until Friday morning.
