Cork gardaí find cocaine and cannabis in a car stopped for speeding
Cocaine was seized by gardaí who stopped a car for speeding on the M8 Motorway near Fermoy.

Gardaí in Cork have arrested a man in his twenties after they found around €60,000 worth of drugs hidden in his car near Fermoy on Saturday night.

The gardaí stopped the car after the driver was recorded as breaking the speed limit near Fermoy on the N8 at around 8.30pm last night.

Gardaí searched the car and seized €40,000 of suspected cannabis herb and approximately €18,000 worth of suspected cocaine.

The male was arrested under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act 1996 in relation to this incident and detained in Fermoy Garda Station.

Gardaí said the investigation is ongoing and that the suspected drugs have been sent for analysis.

In a statement, gardaí said: “Gardaí carried out a search of a car in the Fermoy area, Co. Cork and seized €40,000 of suspected cannabis herb (pending analysis) and approximately €18,000 worth of suspected cocaine (pending analysis)."
