UCC students to cycle 600km for cancer charities
UCC Cancer Society committee members Kevin Harte and Killian Burke will be cycling from Mizen Head to Malin Head in aid of two childhood cancer charities.

Two final-year University College Cork students will cycle from Mizen Head in Cork to Malin Head in Donegal in aid of childhood cancer charities.

Killian Burke and Kevin Harte will cover the 600km journey over three days, from Friday 21-Sunday 23 February.

The pair are UCC Cancer Society Committee members and decided to raise funds for the LauraLynn Children's Hospice and the Childhood Cancer Foundation.

75% of all proceeds from the cycle, named #600Km4Cancer, will go to the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice and 25% of all proceeds will go to the Childhood Cancer Foundation.

UCC Cancer Society is a student-run society which raises funding for various cancer charities all over the country and conducts numerous cancer awareness campaigns.

The society focuses on a specific type of cancer each month, and childhood cancer was chosen for the month of February.

The LauraLynn Children's Hospice and the Childhood Cancer Foundation were chosen as the two beneficiaries of the cycle due to the positive impact both charities make to the lives of sick children all over the country.

Killian and Kevin are raising money through a GoFundMe page as well as through a number of Spinathon fundraisers.

The pair have organised fundraisers in Wilton Shopping Centre on Saturday, February 8, from 10am to 4pm and at the Mardyke Arena on Tuesday, 11 February from 10am to 7pm.

"It is an absolute honour to raise awareness and funding for these two fantastic charities. The knowledge that Kevin and I can make a difference to the lives of many sick children throughout the country is very motivating. I am excited for the journey ahead," says Killian.

"As a UCC Cancer Society Committee Member, I feel extremely proud to represent both the society and the university in such a monumental event. I am extremely looking forward to this event, all support is greatly appreciated," says Kevin.
