The incident occurred on the N20 near Rathduff, between Mallow and Cork city, last night.

Fire units from Ballyvolane, Anglesea Street and Cork County Fire Service in Mallow attended the scene, along with Garda and an ambulance crew.

Images posted by Cork City Fire Brigade show the rear of one car badly damaged.

This morning, some parts of Cork woke up to thick fog but road conditions have improved overall after snow and ice in recent days.

There are no reports of road traffic collisions so far this morning across Cork city.
