A man was arrested following an alleged assault that took place at the taxi rank on Grand Parade in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The woman and her friend were heading home after a night out when it is understood they were approached by a man who, following a verbal interaction, turned violent.

It is thought the man punched the woman in the face and a nearby Garda patrol car was alerted to the incident and intervened.

The woman was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH) for treatment.

A spokesperson for Gardaí said they were investigating an alleged assault incident that occurred at approximately 1.20am on Sunday 1 March at Grand Parade, Cork City.

“A female in her early 20s received facial injuries during the incident. A man in his early 20s was arrested at the scene for Public Order Offences.”

The Gardaí said investigations were ongoing in relation to the incident.
