16 further Covid-19 deaths; rate of confirmed cases continues to slow

A further 16 people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of deaths in Ireland related to the virus to 1,319.

There have also been 266 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 today.

There are now a total of 21,772 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.

The HSE is working to identify any contacts the patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.

According to HSPC data, as of midnight Saturday May 2 which relates to 21,437 cases, 58% of those with the virus are female while 42% are male.

2,840 cases, or 13% have been hospitalised, with 364 of those admitted to ICU. The median age of all cases confirmed by Saturday is 49 years.

6,211 cases are associated with healthcare workers.

Dublin remains the worst affected county in Ireland with 10,561 cases. That’s followed by Kildare with 1,268 cases, and then Cork with 1,175 confirmed cases.
