Garda patrols to take place at Cork beaches to ensure social distancing

CORK County Council has confirmed that Gardaí will be deployed to the county's beaches this weekend in order to ensure people are not congregating in large groups.

The local authority said this is in line with Government advice on social distancing to curb the spread of Covid-19.

A spokesperson said: "Cork County Council and An Garda Siochana wish to advise that traffic restrictions and patrols will be in place this weekend at beaches and amenity areas across Cork County.

"Members of the public are asked to respect and adhere to the advice of Government and HSE in relation to physical distancing. Gatherings at such facilities is discouraged and will be dispersed. Traffic will be diverted by An Garda Siochana where necessary.

"Cork County Council continues to ask the people of Cork County to work with us in our ongoing Community Support Programme. Stay safe and follow HSE advise."
