Gardaí in Mallow are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any road users who may have dash cam footage of the Kanturk to Buttevant Road at around 7pm on Friday, to contact them.
A post mortem is due to be carried out on the body of a woman in her 70s who was killed in a collision on the R580 at around that time.
She was a pedestrian involved in a collision with a car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A technical examination of the road was carried out and it was reopened shortly before noon today.
The latest tragedy is the fourth death on Cork roads this week. A man in his forties was killed on the N27, main Cork to Kinsale Road on Monday and a man in his 50s died in a crash on the N20 Cork to Limerick Rd late on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday night, 16-year-old Kimberly O’Connor was killed when the car in which she was a passenger crashed on the Harbour View Road. A number of other teenagers were injured in the same incident.
