Kostal has announced that it is implementing a phased resumption of operations at its Mallow and Abbeyfeale plants, with some staff members returning to work today (Wednesday, April 22nd).
Last month, the company temporarily closed its Mallow and Abbeyfeale plants saying that the COVID-19 pandemic had presented it “with serious challenges in meeting public safety directives around social distancing, given the numbers of employees on site.”
It said operations had also been impacted by COVID-19 in terms of supply chain and a decrease in demand for products across Europe.
This afternoon, the company confirmed it had taken the decision to begin resuming activities in response to a gradual return of demand for its products in markets where automotive production has started to resume.
It said it expects up to 10 per cent of its staff back on site this week.
“With the health and safety of our staff a priority, both sites will be implementing and strictly adhering to social distancing and other measures as per HSE guidelines,” the company said in a statement.
