GARDAÍ have seized €4,000 of suspected cocaine and cannabis herb and €5,000 in counterfeit cash following searches in Rivervalley, Mallow.
The seizure took place yesterday.
As part of an operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Mallow, Gardaí executed search warrants at two houses in the Rivervalley area.
The operation was led by Gardaí from the Mallow district drugs unit with the assistance of local uniform and detective Gardaí, the armed support unit and the southern region dog unit.
During the course of the searches Gardaí seized €3,580 of suspected cocaine, €420 of suspected cannabis herb and €5,000 in "movie money”. The suspected drugs will now be sent for analysis.
No arrests have been made but Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry.
Speaking at Mallow Garda Station, Inspector Michael Corbett said "Last month we highlighted that revenue officers have seized "movie money” worth over €400,000.
"We would ask that business and the general public be aware of that some of these notes may be in circulation. They do not contain the security features so be sure to check all notes, regardless of the denomination.
"The use of fraudulent currency when trying to purchase goods or services is an offence under the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001 and carries a potential prison sentence of 10 years.”
