LATEST: Man charged after 'extremely serious' stabbing incident in Cork town

Gardaí from the West Cork Garda division are searching the River Bandon for a weapon following an 'extremely serious' stabbing incident this morning.
The scene has been sealed off and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 20s was injured in an early morning attack at a bus stop in Bandon.
A man in his 40s has been arrested while the victim is being cared for at Cork University Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

EARLIER: A man in his 20s received multiple stab wounds during an incident at a bus stop in Bandon this morning.
Speaking to The Echo, West Cork Superintendent Con Cadogan said the victim is currently undergoing emergency surgery at Cork University Hospital following the “extremely serious” incident at a bus stop in Glasslynn Road area of Bandon.

A man in his 40s was arrested following the incident and is being held under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.
He can be held for up to eight hours, until 2pm, at which time his period of detention could be extended.
The incident occurred at around 7.45am and Gardai are appealing for anyone within the vicinity between 7.30am and 8am to come forward.
