Third man arrested in relation to Ballyphehane assault

Gardaí in Togher investigating the serious assault of a man that occurred in Pearse Square, Ballyphehane last week have arrested a third man.

The man, in his late 40s, was arrested on Sunday afternoon and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Togher Garda Station. 

He was questioned in relation to the incident and has since been released without charge yesterday evening. 

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The 19-year-old who received multiple stab wounds during the incident in Ballyphehane on Tuesday April 7 remains in a stable condition at Cork University Hospital. 

He underwent surgery for his injuries.

This is the third arrest in relation to this investigation and Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
