Driver arrested for multiple offences following Garda chase through Cork town
On Wednesday, a car with three males on board failed to stop for Gardaí who were carrying out a patrol in Mitchelstown. Gardaí then pursued the vehicle, which drove across farmland and tried to crash through a gate but failed in the attempt.

Gardaí were involved in a car chase earlier this week with a motorist who failed to stop when requested to do so.

On Wednesday, a car with three males on board failed to stop for Gardaí who were carrying out a patrol in Mitchelstown. 

Gardaí then pursued the vehicle, which drove across farmland and tried to crash through a gate but failed in the attempt.

The driver of the vehicle fled the car and was pursued by Gardaí on foot. 

He entered a river in an attempt to escape, but was assisted from the water and arrested by Gardaí for driving under the influence of drugs. 

The car was seized by Gardaí and will be disposed of.

The car, which also had no tax, no insurance and no NCT was seized by Gardaí and will be disposed of. 

A search of the man’s home also turned up a quantity of cannabis and cocaine.

"A file is being prepared in relation to driving under the influence, dangerous driving and other road traffic offences, possession of controlled substances and non-essential travel in contravention of the Covid-19 legislation currently in place," Gardaí stated.

"On this occasion, the offenders were observed by Gardaí but we always depend on your support. 

"If you see any suspicious activity call 112/999 or your local station immediately," they continued.
