Cork student recognised as An Taisce Climate Ambassador
Sarah Collins has become one of the first students in East Cork to become part of An Taisce’s Climate Ambassador Programme.

A First Year UCC Government & Politics student has become one of the first students in East Cork to become part of An Taisce’s Climate Ambassador Programme.

Sarah Collins, aged 19, from Midleton, recently attended training by An Taisce in Cork city and joins 112 other Climate Ambassadors from around the country in presenting new information on climate change to the public and working with their communities on climate actions, to raise awareness and reduce the effects of climate change while making their communities more sustainable.

Sarah received training from the An Taisce's Climate Action Team along with experts in communications to develop the necessary skills to bring an understanding of climate change to their community.

The Cork student was feeling beyond excited at the opportunity to meet the other new Climate Ambassadors, stating:

"I can't wait to meet the other Climate Ambassadors and hopefully get involved in some cool events and work with different people.

"The one thing I hope to do during my time as an ambassador is to bring about positive change when it comes to climate change and show people that even the smallest thing can make a difference!"

Back in September, Sarah represented Ireland and Plan International Ireland at the first-ever Youth Climate Action Summit in New York.

She joined climate leader Greta Thunberg at the UN Summit as part of the 500 people aged between 18-29 chosen to attend.

The Summit was a platform for young climate action leaders to showcase their solutions at the United Nations and to meaningfully engage with decision-makers on the defining issue of our time.

It marked the largest gathering of young climate leaders at the UN in history.

Her interest in environmental issues began at a young age and Sarah was heavily involved in the Green Schools committee in both primary and secondary school.

Sarah also has a keen interest in sustainable fashion and beauty and runs a podcast and blog, both entitled The Fashion Diet, on these topics.

She is available to work on climate actions/events in Cork by contacting her through email at Sjcollins1995@gmail.com
