LOCAL historian Ronnie Herlihy passed away unexpectedly at Cork University Hospital earlier this week.

The Cork native, who lived in Greenhills Court, Douglas, is survived by his wife Anne and their two children, Ciara and Daniel.

Originally from Cove St, Mr Herlihy had a vast, impressive knowledge of Cork history.

Heartfelt tributes have poured in since his passing. Douglas Street Business Association said the city has lost a true gentleman and a wonderful historian. “Ronnie’s hugely popular walking tour of Douglas St was one of the highlights of AutumnFest over the past three years.

“A devastating loss for his family, friends and the wider South Parish and Leeside communities.

“Ronnie’s knowledge of our local history was both extraordinary and insightful.

“His delivery was humble and unassuming, his enthusiasm and love for this city and her past was evident,” said the association.

“A true gentleman who will be sorely missed.”
