A Cork TD has hit out at Ticketmaster’s reported change of policy regarding refunds for rescheduled gigs.
A number of concerts and events had to be rescheduled in Cork and across the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with many moved to dates in 2021.
Ticketmaster’s website states: “In the unlikely event a show cancels, we'll always give you your money back. Alternatively, we can rebook you into the rescheduled date (if announced) and the timing fits with your plans.” It’s understood that Ticketmaster had offered refunds including the service charge, however, it’s reported they have now changed their policy and will no longer offer service charge refunds to customers.

Solidarity TD Mick Barry labeled the situation as a “money grab” by a large company.
“When you multiply the number of gig-goers that won’t be able to attend rescheduled events with the amounts Ticketmaster charge for service fee add-ons you can see that we’re talking about quite a lot of money here. It’s legal, but I don’t think it should be,” he said.
The Cork North Central TD also warned that this could prove to be the precursor to a larger change in policy, pointing towards issues in the US where some companies are also refusing to provide refunds on tickets, as well as service charges.
