UPDATED 5.45PM:

IT is understood that a suspected pipebomb removed from outside a house on the Kilmore Road was a viable device.

Local TD Thomas Gould has said it has been confirmed to him that the device was real.

"People in the locality believe this device was placed at a house in a case of mistaken identity.

"Locals are very concerned. This is one of a number of incidents of pipe bombs in the city in the last few years and there have been no prosecutions.

"There are a lot of children in the area and this road is the main thoroughfare heading toward the Apple Campus. It is the heart of a residential community."
