Man (30s) arrested after €12k cocaine seizure in Cork city 

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s and seized €12,000 of suspected cocaine in Cork city today.

Shortly after 1pm, Gardaí from Watercourse Road were on patrol in the Summerhill North area when they spotted a man acting suspiciously.

The man was searched and was found to be in possession of €12,000 of suspected cocaine and a weighing scales that was found in a gear bag he was carrying. 

The suspected drugs will now be sent for analysis.

He was arrested and brought to Mayfield Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

Speaking at Mayfield Garda Station, Superintendent Michael Comyns of the Serious Crime Investigation Unit in Cork city said: "Today has been a busy day for Gardaí in Cork city. 

"A suspected firearm was seized in the early hours of this morning and now suspected drugs worth €12,000. 

"Over the last few days our members have shown great dedication to communities throughout the country by assisting in any way possible. 

"But during this challenging time we are continuing to investigate serious crime and will be even more dedicated to protecting the communities we serve.”
